Alef Pathways

With my passion for personalised learning, I had the opportunity to work extensively on Alef Pathways.
This programs aims to deepen understanding of
concepts by providing digital resources that can be accessed by the individual student outside of the classroom, such as videos, animated lessons and assessments.
The program extends across the K-12 spectrum, and is suitable for use worldwide.
Exam Mastery series

Although my particular interest remains with those who find maths difficult, I have been working on an interesting project with the publisher Olivia Press that prepares high-achieving students for exams such as 11+, GCSE and A level.
Packed with questions that focus on the more difficult problem-solving type questions in these exams, the books provide valuable revision. Fully worked solutions are also available online.
Collins White Rose Maths GCSE series

I was development editor for this mastery course for GCSE Maths 9-1, building on the Key Stage 3 course.
Created in partnership with White Rose Education, the books use the pedagogical approach of models and representations with carefully graduated practice to embed conceptual understanding.
2023
In 2023, I was as busy as ever with freelance maths publishing. However, I also diversified into different roles, such as authoring, reviewing and training.
I particularly enjoyed working on creating maths videos for the education company Kognity, who specialise in interactive books for international markets. These videos seek to introduce a particular broad topic in an engaging way, and sometimes rather irreverent, to make the topic more accessible and interesting from the start.

I also authored calculus material for business studies undergraduate students, using graphing tools to bring calculus concepts to life. I learned a lot about business studies and economics during this work.

In this calculus course for non-maths specialists, the focus is on conceptual understanding rather than procedural fluency. Care is taken in introducing the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, and exploring how a function relates to its derivative and to its integral through a range of interactive activities. These concepts are then applied to aspects of business calculus, such as marginal analysis and price elasticity.

I also conducting training sessions on all aspects of creating a maths textbook, including student books and teacher guides. This has involved drawing on aspects of pedagogy, and how these can be translated into features within a textbook spread.
I also continue to work on more traditional media, and they don’t come much more traditional than an O Level Mathematics Coursebook, for which I was development editor. Lots of practice in this textbook!
